Ice skating in the mountains

Schwarzsee lake in winter

If your heart beats for ice skating and idyllic mountain panoramas, we have a great tip for you.

In winter, once the ice is thick enough, Schwarzsee lake transforms into the most picturesque ice rink in the area. Located at some 800 metres above sea level, the idyllic mountain lake usually freezes over, becoming the perfect venue for ice skating, playing ice hockey, or ice curling with a unique view of the spectacular Wilder Kaiser. If you want to make sure that the ice is thick enough for ice skating before setting off on your trip, simply ask us here at Das Alpin, your hotel in the Wilder Kaiser area. Once you know the ice is safe, you’ll soon be gliding along and spinning pirouettes, racing towards the goal, or trying your hand at curling – a fun alternative to skiing on your winter holiday in Austria. And if you don’t have your own skates, don’t worry: We can also tell you where to find a rental shop.

Our tip: Winter hiking or snowshoeing around Schwarzsee lake is also a wonderful experience!
